View Full Version : cat dieing :(

A cat of mine....that my mother adopted from me when I moved out and got married 4 years ago is dieing. He had been my cat....but he had chosen to really love the whole family...so I took a different cat and left him at home. Now he is very sick.
My mom says the vet doesn't really know what is wrong....the vet gave him a shot of antibiotics....and some home meds and some food that he could digest easier...but he isn't eating...only drinking water. Luckily he is moving a bit and drinking water....but his body is more bone to skin than mine....mine is bad enough...he really isn't well.
Anyway I expect I will be saying he has died soon. His name is Romeo....I named him after the cat in the movie Romancing the Stone. Romeo I got when I was around 13 years of age. After I lost my memory when I was 12 my mom repeatedly asked me if there was anything I wanted (she wanted to give me a pressent to help chear me up)...I asked for a kitten and to quit piano lessons. (aim high when the time is right eh?)
Romeo is the Kitten I asked for long ago...I believe we got him in 1990.
So today I visited my parents house and said goodbye...in my PJ's and everything since I am pretty sick myself right now....nothing like him though.
Thanks for listening. :cat: :cat: :cat: :cat: :cat: :cat:

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I know how hard it is when a pet is dying and there is nothing you can do for them except love them and care for them. Back in October 2001 our dog (Daschound/Cocker mix) got real sick with Anemia. Well, we were told at that time to start thinking about how we may have to put her down. Well, it took 6 months of medications but she bounced back, but only until April 2003. In April 2003 she got sick again. She had Anemia again. She was getting to where she was loosing weight, not able to hold it, when she would squat to pee, she was pretty much sitting on the floor. So we took her into the vet in May, and she told us that we may have to considered putting her down and to remember what all she had to go through the first time she got sick. So for that week she could eat ANYTHING she wanted (tacos, hot dogs, fries, etc..) it even looked like she was getting better there during that week. She got a burst of energy. She and I would go out and she would laid out in the grass in the sun. So needless to say I could not sleep that whole week. She was scheduled to go back to the vet on May 19, 2003. The day before, I was in the kitchen doing dishes, and I realized I had not seen her for awhile. So I found her in the bathrrom. She must have had a seizure. She was NOT responding to me. So I freaked out, driove down to my friends house (6 doors away) and asked them to go get my husband at the golfcourse, because I thought Cyndi was dying. So my friend came back down here with me, and Cyndi got up and acted like nothing happened. Sadly to say, on Monday May 19, 2003 we had to make the decision to put her down. That was the hardest thing that we ever had to do. Sure, we did not want to do that. She was our baby. I prayed and prayed to God to heal her, to just let her go in her sleep so that we would not have to make that decision. So, when that time came, I think she knew, I think she was tired of fighting that disease. So I held her head in my hands and looked her in the eyes, said goodbye. I broke down. When her little head started to lean I laid her head down on the table and screamed "OH MY GOD". The vet touched my shoulder and said to me "she is gone now". I realize the vet was just trying to comfort me, but it was very hard for me. So, the vet and the assistant left us alone in the room with Cyndi for awhile. We asked the vet to please cut some fur from her tail, and she did before she inserted the drugs. My husband and I both cried. I cried all the way home (1/2 hour drive), the :dogrun:

I'm soooooooooooooo sorry. I will be praying for him. I have a cat that is 14 years old. She started throwing up and pooping blood. We took her to the vet and had a bunch of test done, blood work, and everything was normal. My Mom remembered that she changed her cat food. We gave her old food back and now she is healthy as can be. Your Mom didn't maybe change his cat food or something did she?? I really hope he gets better because I know how hard loosing a pet is. Pets are so great!!!! Chelsey

(((HUGS))) I'm so sorry. Losing a kitty like that is like losing a loved one, it really is. You cry and cry and hurt for so long. I am certain that when we get to heaven, just like that rainbow bridge poem says, our beloved pets will be waiting there for us, only they will be healthy and happy, and we will never be separated from them again.
I hope that your heart finds peace in the midst of this sorrow.
Blessings, Lori

Oh Katrina, I am SO SORRY to hear about Romeo. I am a cat lover and have 2 cats and 1 kitten myself. I hope when his time comes that he passes peacefully. I am also sorry to hear you are not doing so well. You remind me of my oldest daughter...she will go just about anywhere in her pj bottoms. Please keep us informed on your progress.
Hugs,
DIANE

Katrina, I am so sorry about Romeo, it is so hard when a furry friend is so sick, and it is so hard to see them, and not able to help. I know I have had many cats, and had to say goodbye. I had to put to sleep, one of my favorite cats Tyrone, just over a couple of years ago, and I still miss him. I do believe strongly in the Rainbow Bridge, and know I will see all of my furry companions again. Soft hugs and love coming your way, and Romeos. My heart is definitely with you, Iris. :grouphug: :grouphug:

I am so sorry. I know how hard it is to lose a cat... it always devastates me to the point I swear I will not get another ever again. But then lure of soft fur and purring gets me again :)
I don't know what I'd do if something happened to my Paddington.... he is my buddy, my baby....

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...."

Well this time prayer worked it seemed. Romeo has improved a lot and no long seems to be dieing. Although he is still old and probably won't be the same for a long while...it seems he had one of lives left to spare yet....it seems that way and I hope it to be so. Thank you everyone for your support. I so did not want to loose him. It seems he will stay on Earth a bit longer for now.

That is such great news :woohoo:
It's said that owners are like their pets, so maybe Romeo learned to be brave and find strength despite illness from you. I think that's what happened :)
