i haven't taken any meds in two days, except for my aloe vera/quercetin/coq10/bovine lactoferrin. i feel like i have to go to the bathroom, but cannot get anything out. my mouth tastes like a wet rag. anyone else have this? i get some morning sickness, too. nope, i am not prego.
just wanted to see how i would feel with no valium, pain meds, and skelaxin, etc. have joint pain and aches. this mouth thing tastes like i sucked on a dirty wet rag, but i am thirty. i also felt this way when i took no supplements.
thanks...
shenna

Do you take aloe vera capsules? Is anything else in them and are they helping you?
Thanks

i only started recently with the aloe vera capsules. ran out so i ordered some from desert harvest on thursday. waiting for them... called today and they told me that they had some computer upgrade. is everyone in a computer upgrade? that's what all companies use as an excuse. :lmao: they told me they sent them out yesterday.
i bought 4 bottles of 180 cupsules in them. about $211 bucks. yikes. my uro signed the letter of medical necessity so we can get reimbursed by payflex. my hubby works for the state. payflex is money that is used for medical purposes without being taxed. :woohoo:
i also order some of that cystoq.
it has helped a little. i have a lot of other pain outside of the bladder tenderness/pain. have joint pain, so i take bextra. doesn't do much...
still have this dry-rag mouth. am always thirsty....
drink more water during the day, but it makes me want to throw up in the morning. my body is so exhausted that i sleep for a couple hours, now, and wake up with cramps/spasms/retention and just cannot go now. feel like i have to, but nothing comes out....
seems like the more i drink, the less i go.
my symptoms rotate all the time. sock-mouth is always here even beofre i took any meds. i think it goes along wtih ic.
:hmm:
:dizzy:
pam, are you going to try aloe vera capsules?

I'm not sure if I'm going to try them or not. I was looking it up and the ones I seen had some side effects I didn't like. I took senna last night for my bowels and it has really upset my bladder. I figured the dye would get to me but I was miserable and had to take something. Some days you just feel like giving up!

Good Luck with you doctor. I took Pyridum plus and pain medication yesterday. I do feel better today.
Shenna,
I have constant dry mouth. I am sure it is from the drugs I take. The Paxil cause dry mouth, so do many other drugs. I also get "burning tongue" syndrome. I feel as if I had burnt my mouth on some hot soup or something. No, I didn't, just feels that way.
I have a two hit solution for the BTS...I have to take vit. C, and then at night I use small amount of benedry liquid and malox mixed 50% solution, and swish in mouth like a regular mouth wash for about 5 mins. If too strong add some water.
I need to do this every night and it helps me to stay away from the BTS, and helps a little for dry mouth the next day.
You are not supposed to drink or eat anything for 20 mins. after the mouth rinse.
And you don't swallow, just spit it out.
I also take 25 mg. of bene. at night to help.
Good luck and hugs.

If you are taking Amitriptyline (Elavil), then one of the side effects is dry mouth.

I take my Vit C, early in the morning. When I first wake up like at 4 am or 5 or 6am.
I take my first set of AM pills. That is when the Vit. C is taken.
I don't really wake up till after 1 or 2 pm.
The type of C?
I don't know, something off the shelf.
Sorry, it is not some special Vit C.
But it keeps my mouth from getting the burning tongue thing. I think.
I know, if I skip my C for a couple of days, I can feel the burning thing returning.

I have severe dry mouth and dry eyes as a symptom of very severe CFIDS and Fibro. My teeth are completely destroyed, and there's no money to fix them and with the Xerostomia- severe dry mouth- I can't use dentures. Brushing my teeth with regular toothpaste is agony, it causes burning and I can't taste anything right for hours. I didn't even find Biotene until after the damage was done- thanks dentists who couldn't be bothered with telling me there were actual treatments for it! ;)
It is very embarrassing. My teeth all have surface cavities- my front teeth especially are embarrassing to me. I've always been good looking. Now I feel like one of those joke posters with a beautiful woman who opens her mouth to reveal horribly decayed teeth.
I hate getting blamed for this, too, like I just didn't brush my teeth. Of course I did, but in many ways, the regular toothpastes were so drying they actually contributed to the problem. I need $10K of dental work, including 2 root canals, but that is never going to happen. There's just no money for it.
I also do have severely dry eyes, which concerns me. I can't wear my contacts anymore, unless I am committed to looking great but feeling awful.
Basically, whatever can go wrong with my body, will go wrong! This is year 21 for me with IC, though I didn't get a proper diagnosis until a month and a half ago.

Well I haven't been prescribed any meds yet and I have dry mouth and eyes all the time. These can be signs of diabetes as with being thirsty and tired all the time so I think you might want to see your doc and have him do the blood work for diabetes just to rule that out. If you havent already.

That's how I started with this whole IC thing. I had the dry mouth, thirsty all the time and as a result, constant BR trips. I thought it might be the new allergy meds I had started or diabetes. Doc ordered some blood and urine tests. Found hypothyroid, and crystals in my urine. Then sent me to the uro, I went because I didn't think my sx were normal. Had a UTI when cultured but it didn't clear up the sx. I was fortunate that the uro I went to was knowlegeable about IC. He suspected IC on my second visit and scheduled me for the hydro. We have been adjusting the meds since the end of July but I still have really dry mouth and occasional nose bleeds. My allergy nose spray makes the inside of my nose raw when the heat is turned on even though I have humidifiers in my house and my classroom. The biggest problem is the dry mouth and throat. I am a high school teacher and many times my voice gives out or I start coughing when I talk in class. I used to drink hot tea, but not sure I can toerate it anymore. So I suck on life savers and throat lozenges almost continuously. My dentist gave me info on "dry mouth" and warned me of what happened to you, Alpha. My uro was concerned about it enough to lower my dose of Elavil from 25 mg to 10 mg twice a day.
There is also a connection to Soejgrens (sp) Syndrome. Many ICers have it also. Can also be drug induced as is probably my situation, although I too have never been able to wear contact because of dry eyes.
I agree with Jan, you should address the issue with your doc(s).

i think ic'ers are suppose to take ester-c. something like that. it doesn't have as much acid in it.
i will look into the ester-c for my dirty-sock mouth.... :lmao:

Yeah I have dry mouth too which can lead to bad breath. ugh. I have started brushing my teeth three times a day instead of 2, and my dentist gave me an RX mouthwash, which has been helpful.
I have elimenated a lot of extra meds, and vits from my diet. Including all the fiber bars I was eating.
I need to find out what is causing my flares.
I have been off of the reg C for days, I added the ester C.
Many of the drugs I take tend to cause dry mouth.
I am slowly adding meds and foods back in to see what happens.
I have had a few short flares, and will figure it was caused by what I ate. But will try it again at another time. Still not eating it in diet.
This will be a fairly long process.
There is special gum you can chew for dry mouth. It makes your breath better, and sort of helps the dry mouth. My diluted pear juice seems to help a lot.
I usd to use orange juice with Equal. Then stopped that, and went to pear juice no sweetner, and diluted 1 cup to 7 cups water.

Well my dry mouth has gotten worse along with dry eyes, constipation, tired, headaches, and got to go but only go a small amount. These are all side effects from the ditropan xl that the doc gave me. Also he prescribed elmiron but I haven't noticed any of the side affects from that yet.
But on the elivil you girls are taking, I use to take that years ago for my headaches, I was taking 50mg of it and one of the side affects was dry mouth. My doc that prescribed it told me to try to take it at night before I went to bed and the dry mouth might subside. So I did and it helped a bit. If you not taking that way right now try it see what happens.

The dry mouth goes away with the Ditropan XL after a while. I don't have any problems with that. What is the gum you're talking about?
I wish I could find a safe protein bar I could eat. I would rather have something like that instead of trying to figure out something to take for lunch everyday.

well does the dry eyes, nausa, constipation, having to pee all the time but only pee small amounts, and being so tired that you cant keep your eyes opened. i feel worse now than when i walked into the office to see the uro.
And i dont understand why they would treat the frequency anyway since i told them that i cant remember a time when i didnt pee alot. I have done that all my life. when i was preg. i went to the bathroom about every half hour or less and then when i was not preg i have always went about every hour or so. I wet the bed till i was in the third grade. and i was treated as a young child for kidney issues what kind i dont know as i was young.
anyway sorry for the ranting as i am getting discouraged about the whole thing. if this is feeling good then i dont want to take all these meds i would much rather deal with the pain. as i feel worse now that i am taking the meds.

I have dry mouth most of the time from my meds too, but I drink alot and chew gum. I also hadkidney problems as a child and was hospitalized for a week in Children's Hospital. It ended up being some sort of kidney disease I eventually grew out of. Anyways, i truely understand about how you feel about the pain and the side effects from the meds. I have been on hard core pain meds for three years now and most days, I just want to not take them. But, I found out real quick that I only feel worse and end up down and out even longer. Have you tried other methods besides meds.? Good luck and know you can always come to me if you need to chat or vent or whatever!!

For me, my dry eyes and dry mouth are unfortunately part of the autoimmune part of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. It's almost as if I have Sjogren's, but the test never comes out positive, but it's that bad. The surfaces of all my teeth, including my front teeth, have horrible cavities and I'm always in pain from that, but our insurance for dental won't cover enough for me to get anything done. So far, it hasn't caused any bad breath, but the rotting is horrible, and I didn't find out about the dry mouth toothpaste until after my front teeth already rotted.
Good luck for those who have dry mouth/eyes because of medications. While meds can make it worse for me, it starts out really bad anyway, so changing or stopping this or that med have made very little difference.
It is called Biotene
sugar free mint gum.
I tried it one time when I was really dry, and it did help me to not be as dry.
I hate gum, so I just sip pear juice diluted down to one cup pear, 7 cups water.
1888 246 8363
phone number for the company.
I got it online, do a google for the name, and you might find sites that carry the stuff.
Or ask your pharmacist.

I too take ditrapan XL 15mg , three times a day now. Yes you read that right. THree times a day. My eyes , my nose, my mouth, my skin.....everything is dried out now. I sip water all day long and chew sugarless gum sometimes. Over the years, the ditrapan has eaten my teeth as well. I have a mouth full of caps because of it. BUT i would rather have these side effects than to keep peeing every ten minutes. So i just deal. My URo gave me something for the constipation and i just deal with the rest.
Hang in there. I totally understand.
