I have had ic for 14 years and have all the symptoms but the past few days I have had pain in my urethra ( I think). If feels sore there, like a needle, and after i pee it really burns for about 15 or 20 minutes. Then 5 minutes later i have to pee again. I know I am starting to flare because my belly is swollen and I have been under stress the past week. Does anyone know how to cool the burning? It hurts to sit. I had been in remission for about 4 years and the past month has been horrible!!!http://

Are you sure you don't have a UTI? That's the way I feel when I have a UTI; burning, pain in the urethra and frequency. It never quite reaches the bladder area. When I feel it coming on, I take 1/2 tsp. of baking soda in water (Lots of water) to neutralize the acidity of the urine. I also start pyridium immediately and drop off a urine speciment to the dr.'s office to be sent off for a culture. I hope you are feeling better soon. liz

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I am very sorry you are flarring. For me antacids....baking soda and water, lots and lots of water....are the best things orally for the burn. Other than that....cold...sometimes I will put a balloon with cold water in my vagina (don't fill it too full) and hold ice pack down there. I hope you feel better soon.

I feel like I have a UTI all the time, I mean mostly the pain is in my uniary tract, not my bladder. I'm wondering how we would know if we REALLY had one. I've been seeing the doc weekly so they test my pee, but it worries me that I could have one sometime and not know it.
I find bathing really helps the burn, warm bath and as everyone else has said baking soda and tons of water.
I've got the start of a flare now which I"m hoping will pass really quickly - supposed to be going to friends house tonight, don't want to send hubby solo yet again.
Good wishes to all
Nickie
I wondered about a UTI, too. Probably worth getting checked out.

I can't tell the difference between a flare and a UTI. I always go to the doctor to get checked for an infection, just in case it is a UTI. Burning is the symptom of my IC that makes it almost unbearable. The same scenario as you described in your opening post. Almost all my flares are self-inflicted (diet) but I do find baking soda in water (2 to 3 glasses) usually stops the burning with-in a few hours for me.
Hope you're feeling better soon!

I always feel as if I have to pee again right after I just peed. I get a bloated belly also. This usually happens when I start to flare. I hope you feel better. I'm sorry that you aren't feeling well. Hopefully you will get better soon. Chelsey
