View Full Version : Have Any of You Been Prescribed Diazapan to Relax the Bladder?

I thought I'd run this by the forum. I was prescribed diazapan (anti anxiety meds) for IC and anxiety both. I found it does relax the bladder muscles. However, the thought of taking this long term year after year bothers me and I started to gently lower my dose. At first it bothered the IC and for the time being anyway, the IC is settling down; though completely unpredicatble as usual. I would love hearing from people who have been given this method to cope with IC and if they ever got off the medication and how. I know we are not doctors here and I will not take any responses as medical advice. It's just that I feel all alone and nervous from the tapering down. I will not do any more tapering down this year. I would like to get off these medications within the next years or so if possible.
All the best,
Songbird

No, I've never heard of this. I go to the dr. next week since my cysto. I'm not sure what type of meds I'll be put on. She did say something though that they were going to give me exercises to help strengthen up my musscles around my bladder area. That med your on though sounds good. It seems like my bladder can never relax. Chelsey

I have been taking Valium for the past month and it has worked really really well. Let me know if you have any questions.

Well, I take Klonopin (clonazepam) for anxiety and panic disorder -- it was prescribed my my psychiatrist but I have noticed that it does have bladder-relaxing properties as well. Most of these benzodiazepine anti-anxiety meds will have a similar effect as they're all muscle relaxants too.

If you want to get off your med, though, I would suggest that you tell your doctor and do it under his/her supervision just to make sure everything goes well!

Good luck :grouphug:

I took it for bladder spasms and it helped a great deal, but eventually my body got used to it, but I think that's just me, because my body adjusts to meds pretty quickly. Good luck, I hope it works for you. :)

Hugs and love,
Jess

I think you are smart to try to get off of it. Valuim does make me depressed. I never took it on a regular basis but when I did take it for IC I noticed that the next day I would be depressed. It is also a medication that only lasts a few hours so I would not think it would be the best choice. Some pain killers work for longer periods of time.

I would assume you would be very tired taking it everyday.

I was prescribed it for another reason and when I tried to have the Uro prescribe it he would not. It did help when I was in a lot of pain. I remember reading about it helping also.

Good luck.

I take klonopin at night and only as needed for spasms during the day so I won't build up a dependence on it. It really saves the day!

I am tapering off the Klonopin but the problem is now, since it was given to me both for anxiety and to relax the bladder. I have a rebound effect. Plenty of anxiety which is getting easier but the bladder gave a horrible flare with pain level up to 8. I wound up taking 1/4 of a pain med the dr. prescribed. I have gone down in dose before and I think at some point something like this happened and then it leveled out. I take 1/2 mg Xanex before bedtime. I'm not even going to taper this one yet. Please pray for me and/or hold thoughts for success getting off the diazapan. I wonder if I will actually ever be able to get off the Klonopin and Xanex. Has anyone here done this with a doctor's help? Donna, thank you so much for keeping this thread open. I didn't know how to send a PM to you. Sometimes I have not been quite myself lately. I hope I didn't offend you in any way.
Hugs to all and thank you for all support.
