anyone have prolapsed urethra

Hi...
I have an appointment on 12/19 with my uro. I have had IC for 9 years (Hunner's ulcers and glomulerations). I have a Interstim for urinary retention that is working fine but needs to be reprogrammed every few months. I have had alot of vaginal and rectal discomfort/pressure and was found to have a prolapsed urethra and bladder. I am seeing the uro Friday to discuss my upcoming surgery for repair. I also had a complete hysterectomy 6 years ago.....I am really nervous
about this. Has anyone else experienced this problem or had surgery for repair like this? I could sure use some support and insight from my IC buddies.....thanks, Tina C. :confused:

I had surgery on November 11 to put my abdominal organs back where they belong --- my bladder was visible in my vagina.

I had my usual reaction to pain medications and my uro found more to do than he had planned, but I'm now almost fully recovered. I still have some time to go before I can do any lifting, but that's not bad at all.

For me, it's well worth it.

grouphug grouphug grouphug I will be praying for you. I had a bladder supension done in sept. It has worked for me. Let us know how you make out at the drs. I never had prolapsed uretha. The dr had to alot of work too that he hadn't planned on doing, alot of scar tissues in my uretha and bladder.

Hi Tina, I have the bladder and the rectum to get fixed, but I am not ready to do that yet, I keep trying to put it off. I know Donna had that done before and she said it was not too bad, guess you just have to listen and not lift until you are completely healed up. My one sister in law had to have it done three time until it finally stayed up where it was to be. Guess it all depends how bad it is and how good your doctor is at doing the fixing. Good Luck to you and let us know when you are being done. I will keep you in my prayers also.

Hi there,
The surgery seems to be a success. It is the problem of bladder spasms that I am dealing with now. I still a a suprapubic catheter to drain the urine and I am going to the doctor tomorrow. The doctor started me on Ditropan and Flomax but I do not see any difference with these medications. I also shut off my Insterstim device thinking that it was the reason for the spasms...nope! Anyone else taking these medications? Tina C. :confused:

I'm so glad your surgery is over with. And glad it was successful. I'm almost two months post-op now and feeling well. I had an IC flare, but much better now.

Donna, we had been discussing prolapses a while back...I had a severe rectocele. Well, turns out it's a perineocele. It's a grade 3 and apparently rare. I also have a grade 1 rectocele and grade 1 urocele. The CRNP had said she thought I would need a complete pelvic floor reconstruction but the doctor says since the others are just grade one she just wants to get the perineocele fixed at this point since my bladder is doing very well. Sigh. I also have had chronic salivary gland infections since Christmas. Everytime I stop the antibiotic it comes back three days later. ENT is not available til 2/2. Sound familiary?

For Patrice: It does sound like you have lots going on. Have you scheduled your surgery yet? Will your urologist be doing the surgery? I was soooo glad my urologist would do mine. I've been going to him for so many years and have so much confidence in him that I wasn't even afraid --- just a little nervous about how much it might hurt, but I'm a little cowardly.

I hope that infection goes away quickly --- I know it takes ages to get in to see some of the specialists.

Donna, She wants me to see the gastro first because I had blood in my stools a few weeks ago (attached to it). I see her the 22nd. Then she wants me to see the ENT about my glands before having surgery that will dry me out first. That's not til the 2nd. And I have to have a pelvic MRI which isn't til the 11th. If it were a complete reconstruction I was going to see someone else but I know my uro (Dr. Whitmore)will take my bladder into consideration and is a good surgeon so she'll do it. Thanks for your support.

Hi Tina! I'm on Ditropan and intially I didn't notice any kind of difference. In fact I almost thought it made it worst. However, after about 2 and a half weeks I started feeling better. I actually slept through the night without having to get up, I couldn't believe it. So, I would say it might take weeks before you notice any changes.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the info on the Ditropan. My uro doc took me off of it and I am on Flomax now. The Flomax is supposed to help me empty more efficiently and without using much force. The doctor has me setting my alarm clock every 4 hours at night to emtpty my bladder. If I don't, then I go into spasm in the morning and have to catheterize myself and wind up having a horrible morning. I also have an Interstim device that has had to be reprogrammed a few times to help with my retention problem. The bladder spasms are horrible when they occur. Thank you for responding to my posts...you are all so wonderful. I think this site has been a god-sent for me. I feel like I have a whole bunch of friends that really understand what I am going through. Thanks again and god bless!!!
