hey all
this message is for the endo crowd. i just went to my gynocologist last week and she said i was showing signs of endometriosis and that they were going to treat me for it. so they put me on something called depro lupron. its a shot and is supposed to shut down the ovaries. i was taking birth control pills at the time and my doc told me i could disscontinue them since i wouldnt need them because my ovaries would be shut down. i stopped taking the pills about 3 days ago and started having pains today. really bad pains like i would when i was about to start my period. i didnt think anything of it cuz i wasnt supposed to get my period. then i started bleeding a little today and was wondering why i started my period if im on this depro lupron stuff? it doesnt make any sense. i think ill call my doctor tomorrow but has anyone else experienced this? and boy am i glad that i didnt have sex with my b-friend a couple of days ago like he wanted or i could be pregnant right now. whew! what a relief.

I have a question to add, the shot can it be used for non endo people as birthcontrol and to stop menstration. I do not have endo but my Ic is just too much when my period comes and I would like to avoid it, also can you get pregnate when you stop the shots?
Kim hope you feel better soon

Lupron is not meant to be a form of birth control but I was told to stop my birth control pills too.....the shots are only temporary and you would go back to normal after a period of time after stopping the shots.

Kim...I did not have that happen while on Lupron...but if you just started Lupron it may be because of the transition and you should be in Lupron's metapouse soon. I am glad you are calling your doc. My thoughts are that the change is what is hurting you. Lupron takes some time to have full control....I hope that helps you some. Let me know if I can help anymore. I hope you feel better soon. Endo is no fun...especially in addition to IC.....but Lupron helped me A LOT!

Angela....Lupron helped my IC too...not having periods made a big difference in helping me feel better.

most women will have a period the first month on lupron. if it lasts longer than normal, let your doc know. i bled for 7 weeks on it.

lupron is a very serious drug and shouldn't be used just to stop your periods. it is used to treat endometriosis, fibroids and prostate cancer. it can have very long-lasting side effects. i developed IC while on lupron, and my doc thinks it's possible lupron had something to do with it in my case.

lupron induces chemical menopause. menopause is not easy on the body.

good luck with it. i didn't get much benefit from it, but i'm one of the rare ones. there are lots of women who actually had relief after using it.
