I hate the uro I saw today!!

Well I went today and saw a uro cause I have had a uti since the beginning of July that we haven't been able to clear up. I am 5 months pregnant right now and just plain miserable. This uro was a total ***!! He talked to me like I knew nothing. He didn't even do an exam, instead he said there's nothing he can do to help me while I'm pg. I need to just live with the IC and the UTI!! Macrobid isn't working. He did prescribe me one other antiboitic though. It's amphicillin. He said that's my only other choice until the baby is born. Then when I started crying he told me there was nothing to cry about. Well, he's not the one living with the pain I have been in for the last 3 months!!! My IC was in remission unitl I got pg. My pg was a blessing and it will be my only one, but knowing I have to live with this pain and discomfort until Jan is unreal. Also I've been told if a uti goes untreated it can lead to pre-term labor..but the uro said he knew nothing of that..grrr!!

My ob did give my darviset for the pain yesterday, but it only makes me sleepy and doesn't help the pain, plus I don't feel real confortbale taking it either if you know what I mean.

I'm so sorry to rant and whine like this, but I'm so depressed by this and I keep wondering how I'm going to continue to work when I can only stand for a couple minutes before the pain and frequency takes over. I'm the most comfortable lying flat.

Any words of advice would be great, even though I know there may not be much anyone can say at this point.

That was totally unacceptable.......don't waste your time and money seeing him again......get in your health book and call up another one...that uro just needs a kick in the butt......what was he thinking??

Anyway, I have heard about problems with the baby when a uti goes untreated. Have any of the doctors you've seen cultured this bad puppy? But you're in good hands seeing your ob.

I had two uti's when I was pregnant but can't remember now what the meds were.....I'm a big help ...huh? I hope you can get it cleared up.....and then you could enjoy being pregnant.....especially if this is the only one.......what are you having??? :)

So very sorry! That doc definatly would have made me feeling extrememly angry ....it is crule how he acted. When pregnancy is involved It is hard to know what will help you....but to not try ....to not search for answers....to give you no hope....that is wrong and means doc deserves a firing! I wish you the best of luck on getting the help you need and deserve. An infection for that length of time....my heart aches for you :kiss: :kiss:

Thank you all so much for the concern and response. They have cultured in many times and macrobid is "suppose" to be able to treat it, but for some reason it's not working. I'm kinda at the mercy of my ob as I have state medicaid, cause my income is so low. So that was the doc he refered me to. When I see my ob again on Wednesday I'm going to tell him what I think and see if he would be willing to refer me to a new uro, preferably a female..who may have a little more sympathy for my condition. I started ampicilin last night and I know it'll take a few days to see if it's going to work..but if it does I have to be on it for the rest of my pg and everything I read on it said prolonged use can cuase infection..i.e. oral, bladder, yeast...So what the heck?? I just don't know. We'll see what happens. Again thank you so much for the support...my poor family doesn't know what to do about this as they aren't familiar with any of it.

If you have a UTI and your urologist is not making an effort to rid you of it, that borders on malpractice. It is very dangerous to have a UTI that long (especially when you are pregnant) Also, it is not true that Macrobid and ampicilin are the only ones you can take when your pg. After the 3rd month you can take Bactrim. And other non-ideal antibiotics are still preferred over having an infection when your pg. You need to continue taking your antibiotics and go back to the gyn as soon as your done. Have her re-culture and if the infectin is still there try something stronger. If your gyn isn't willing to help, then you need to see a new doctor.

Good Luck and congratulations on your pregnancy. I also have PCOS so know that fertility can be a struggle.
