Hi, I nearly always get chills (and extreme tiredness) right before a flare. Is this a common symptom? I was curious because it happens so often, but I don't see chills mentioned in relation to IC. :hmm:

Humm...hopefully someone can help you out on this one. However, I am a very cold nature person. I'm always freezing. I live in FL and we have summers of 90 degree weather. I've slept before with a sweat shirt, long pants, and socks because I was so cold. Maybe being cold does have something to do with IC? Chelsey
Any possibility of infection?

low fever is a possible symptom of IC....but I have never heard high mentioned....non the less I do think that some of us have IC because of problems with our immune system.....maybe atleast for you it is a part of your IC....if I were you I would believe it lol! Anyway do tell your doctor!....All of the mysteries of IC

I know it's weird, I am normally cold most of the time, but these pre-flare chills/fatigue are worse than usual. Thanks for all your thoughts, I will tell my doctor about it. This is a great message board!
Hi, I am so glad you mentioned chills. Whenever my pain is up I get them too. Someone at work told me it could be you body reacting to the pain. I really dont know for sure but I remember writing it down as one of my symptoms. KEC

I get chills and then hot flashes and it seems to happen when my pain is at a high level. Doctors have been unable to link it to anything yet so maybe the pain level has something to do with it. If it is a new symptom I would discuss it with your doctor.

I get the chills when I'm in pain as well as hot flashes also. I usually flip back and forth but some of mine is related to my early menopause and fluctuation of my estrogen levels. But during painful flare-ups (which has been for the past month straight) I do get the chills. :)

I am freezing most of the time and sometimes I just can't seem to get warm. Very common for me although no one has linked it to anything yet? Are you really slim? People usually tell me that it has to do with low body fat.

I guess I am on the slim side, I gain weight easiest around the tummy. I'd been checked in the recent past for thyroid problems and anemia, both of which are normal. It is interesting to read all your posts......

This very same thing happens to me. It is usually a sign that the IC is going to start bothering me or is bothering me.
Gentle hugs,

Wow, I thought I was the only person who ever got really cold. I never really noticed it related to my pain though. Chelsey

I would always get the chills shortly before my period, and if I'm not using medication, I would flare around my period too, so I'm not sure if my chills are period related or IC related.

every person who touches my skin comments how cold i am, im constantly freezing (its a sunny day here and im sat with a hot water bottle!)
my aunt thinks its a lack of drinking warm bevrages, the only drink i can tolerate because of my ic is water!

Just a thought. Have you been checked for anemia? When I was anemic I was freezing all the time and no matter what I did I couldn't get warm.

I've been getting lots of chills and have a constant low grade fever. Maybe it is IC related. My mom rushed me to the emergency (right in the beginning, when my IC *blank* started).... because I had major chills... my teeth were uncontrollably chattering... and I was extremely pale...(even after an hour of laying under 4 blankets with a sweater on etc..) The whole episode lasted about 4hrs... all they did at the ER was give me fluids... and they gave me some weird diagnosis that was definatly wrong in my take home sheet... Anyways, my mom (an RN) thought that it was kidney related and that I might have a kidney stone... because chills are often associated with that... I might have had a kidney stone... Who knows? I definately had major chills though!!!
This is of great interest to me, I had never thought to connect it to IC in any way. I believe mine, though, is due to two things, age, which I can do nothing about..... Have you ever noticed little old people on a hot day wearing sweaters and coats? Well, my gp says it is part of old age. (And if no one has said this before, aging sucks big time!) But part of it is because of all the weight I lost. I am not going to regain it all just to get warm again though. I did better this summer, I was actually comfortable at 78 degrees. Yes, this is an improvement. :lmao: It had been that I was only warm when it got over 90 degrees and living in the Pacific Northwest, that is very seldom the case. But I still chill easily and once cold, have a hard time warming back up. I'm now wearing a sweatshirt over my other clothes most days and my computer room is kept quite warm. If I could afford it and it didn't annoy others, I'd keep the house at least at 80 degrees. Bring on global warming!!
However, when I get truly sick, like the flu or some such, I usually get very cold before the fever hits. For this, I sit in a tub of hot water, which is soothing for the aches and pains that go with something like the flu. Plus, when I get out, it usually has triggered the fever, so I am warmer anyway. I haven't noticed it accompanying IC flares though.
