Hey everyone
I'm thinking about getting a navel piercing done and just wanted to know if anyone else that has had one done if it's bothered your IC at all? I've been in remission for a while now and just want to make sure that it won't effect my IC any.
Thanks
Amy :)

I wanted to get my navel pierced as well. My doctor did not say much about it effecting my IC but he did say with my auto immune system being touchy he did not suggest it because of infection. Which I am prone too but silly me didnot think about that. I still consider it every now and then but I get nervous and think I have enough problems. Heres my positve additude when I get feeling better and healthier its gonna be on my list of things to do.
Good luck ,
Kelly

My thoughts are about the same....although I don't know why it would hurt IC directly ....there would be a risk of infection....and any time my body has an infection of any kind it hurts my IC. If you choose to do it....GOOD LUCK!!! I so hope you remission continues and continues!

If all goes well then I am looking to get it done in October, and many of my friends that have it done have recommended different techniques to keep infection away so cross my fingers that it works. I'll let you know when I go through with it :)
My friend is going with me to get hers done too so I'm not as nervous.

I have mine done... however it was before I was dx'ed... if you keep it cleaned several times daily with bactine, and, an anti-bactrial ointmnet.. you should be ok.

Hi Amy...I got my belly pierced and I had IC at the time....what I think it did trigger was a HORRENDOUS bout with IBS. I had never had IBS until the piercing and the day after....WHAM! I lost 40lbs in 2 months....plus the healing was really slow. I had to keep after it with surgical scrub -- if you don't keep up with the cleansing, you can get a nasty infx and even gangrene! :yikes:

But I'm all better now and I'm glad i got it done...i don't know if I'd get more (I thought about getting 3 more belly piercings to make a *star*)

Good Luck!!!

I got my belly pierced 9 years ago & never had a lick of trouble with it - never an infection or anything. I kept it in the entire time I was pregnant & only took it out for the c-section procedure & then it was put right back in. The only time that I had ever taken it out was for a surgery. However, after my last surgery in May this year, it really started hurting me. It wasn't infected or anything, but it just hurt real bad. Well, I tried my best to keep it in, but the pain kept getting worse & worse until one day that I had enough. I took it out & my pain instantly went away. I haven't put it back in since. Now I have this lovely little hole there that's oh soo attractive - NOT! I think that my body was overloaded with immunity problems & it seen my belly ring as one more thing that it had to fight off.

I had my belly pierced and it never ever healed. It was always infected and a mess. My skin actually seperated where the ring was at and the belly ring was only staying in by a piece of thread. The skin ended up busting and now I have a huge scar on my belly button from where it was pierced. I really don't know though if it's realted to IC or not? I thought it was maybe from going to the tanning bed. Not sure...however if your dr. said it might be a bother I wouldn't get it done. Mine always hurt really bad. I'm actually glad I don't have mine anymore. Chelsey

I have never had the desire for a navel piercing (probably because I have a scar there where I had a small surgical procedure done and it would not be very attractive), but my niece had one and she regrets it. She decided she didn't want it and let it grow up. It left a scar much like the one I have. Wouldn't it make more sense to use one of the rings you can slip on? That way you can take it on and off as you want and there is no scar when you get tired of it. Good luck either way!

I've decided to wait till January since I'm low on funds but I am still wanting to get it done. It was between that an eyebrow ring of a lip ring. I think if I still have the nerve to do it by January that I'll get it done. I'm also trying to give myself enough time so that I am positive that I want it.
I'll definitely mention it to my doctor to see if he thinks my system will be okay with getting it done. I'm doing quite well health wise so hopefully he'll say yes.

I was actually happy when I had to take mine out. I had a lot of regret after I had got it done because it never healed correctly. If you do get it done, make sure you go somewhere that is very clean. Chelsey

I will definitely do that, I have narrowed it down to two different places, one actually has all it's piercers have to have certificates of taking a sanitization course. Plus they use every means to keep things sanitary. The other store is just as clean so I am definitely going to do my homework at these places before I get it done.
Thanks for all the input everyone.
