:help: Hi guys I want to ask about 2 seperate things here- firstly, does anyone get bad bloating?? I used to have a relatively flat tummy but it is now constantly bloated. Seriously, I look more pregnant now than I did when I was 4 months pregnant- and since I just had a laparoscopy there is definately nothing in there!! It's really getting me down. Is it just my tummy muscles?? I'm not game to do sit ups or anything with my bladder pain. I also have IBS so could it be more a symptom of that??

Also, right now and I do get this on and off- sharp knifing pains right down throughmy pelvis- not in the bladder exactly but more to the side, right down into my groin. It doesn't really happen with an urge to go to the loo so I'm not certain it's my bladder but this does seem to coincide with my flares and I'm in one now. Does anyone else have this??? I hate it, it's painful and it's freaking me out.

Thanks for your help,

As for your first question, yes, many ICers (including myself) get bloated, especially during flares. Generally, we call it IC Belly and it is thought to be related to ongoing inflammation in the pelvis around the bladder. All that inflammation causes an accumulation of fluid to form, and, whammo... IC belly. It's annoying, causes pants to suddenly become to small, and makes you look pregnant, but often settles down once your flare settles down. The good news is, doing sit-ups won't help this kind of thing -- so you're off the hook ;)

As for your second question, the knife-like pains -- I get 'em too. I think they are related to the IC. I've been told that those kinds of sharp, shooting pains are just nerves misfiring in the pelvis, again because of inflammation. However, if you've just suddenly developed the symptom, it's always a good idea to mention it to your doctor in case something else is going on.

Good luck, and hope your bloat goes down soon :grouphug:

I always feel bloated. Whenever I get bloated I feel very sick and have to go and lay down. Also, I get a lot of sharp pain in my pelvic area as well. Your not the only one having these symptoms. Chelsey

Well it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one!! And thanks for the permission to not do my sit ups... (like I was doing them anyway!! :lmao: )

Seriously, I really hate this sometimes... It's no fun wearing your maternity clothes when the only thing growing in your belly is inflammation!!

By the end of last night my one sided pain had become sharp, period type pain right across my lower pelvis. Started thinking the one sided pain was ok!

I'm seeing a new uro on Friday- an IC specialist so I will run it all by her.

Cheers and thank-you,

Sara

I'm glad you mentioned this Sara. Sometimes with all these pain & aches I just think i'm getting too old, unfit & overweight. These sharp pains stop me in my tracks, I have to just stand there holding my tummy until they pass. There is alot related to IC that I was not aware of until comming to this site.
Thank goodness we have it.
