View Full Version : Infection or not - how to tell? Severe pain today :(

I still haven't been diagnosed, since I haven't gone to the urologist yet - I'm chicken and I'm petrified of that darn cystoscopy they're gonna want to do. But my gyn and regular doc both highly suspect IC since I'm always having bladder pain/urgency/cramping/burning/etc, and usually there's no infection present.

I'm flaring again since yesterday - or at least I think I am. It hit yesterday afternoon. I didn't feel too well (nothing out of the ordinary for me since I always feel like crud these days), so I took a nap. The SEVERE urge to urinate actually woke me up. It was really bad. So I went to the bathroom and have been in agony since. I've drank alot of water and taken 4 doses of Uristat with no relief at all (which also seems to be making me really sick to my stomach - although it could just be the pain as well). I don't have a fever or anything, but dear god do I hurt. My ovarian cysts have gone psycho this month, so those are killing me today (I have one large one on each ovary), really bad lower back pain, it feels like someone has whacked me between the legs with a baseball bat - major bruised feeling going on. It doesn't burn to pee right now, but as soon as I'm finished I get major knifelike sensations in my bladder and urethra. And then of course I feel like I have to pee again.. funny thing is, within 10 minutes I really DO have to pee (the urge is horrendous) and quite alot comes out each time. I've drank alot of water, but not much more than I usually do each day.

I don't know what to do. I know for SURE I'm calling the urologist tomorrow, but of course I know that I won't be getting in to see him for a while. Should I go back to my gyno or regular doc and see if I have a true infection? I'm about a week away from starting my period and it ALWAYS flares around this time.

I'm just in sooooooo much pain I've been crying half the day :(

I hope your uro will be able to get you in asap if they are unable and your pain continues getting checked for a infection would be a good idea. I hope you get some relief soon,
Huggs ,
Kelly

Hi, I agree with Kelly's post. Do hope you can get in to see someone, and get some relief for your pain, and check if you have an infection. Keep us posted as to how you are doing, really soft hugs Iris. :hi: :grouphug: :flower:

 :grouphug: Hormones wouold affect your cysts and IC....so could be a flare from hormones????
I hope you and your doc can find a way for you to feel better no matter what is causing your suffering.

Thanks you guys :)

I'll call my doc tomorrow after I call the urologist.. hopefully someone can get me in asap. I know I can't go on like this. I can honestly say that this is the worst bladder pain I've felt in years... it hurts to move, it hurts to sit, it hurts to lie down. When I stand up, I feel like something is falling out of me - hard to explain, but I'll try. It's almost like a swollen feeling around my urethra, like something's there that's not supposed to be. I also have tons of pressure down there and I'm so bloated I look like I'm pregnant! God it just hurts so much :(

Sorry to whine, but I'm about to lose my mind here.

I'm planning on taking some Tylenol PM tonight, like real soon even though it's not even 6:30pm here. It usually knocks me out pretty good. I would just double up on the hydrocodone I have here (I take it for Fibromyalgia flares, supposed to take 1-2 pills every 4-6 hours.. 500mg), but it makes me too loopy and I end up very nauseous instead of being knocked out. I HATE that high feeling - ugh.

Or, someone could just whack me on the head with a frying pan and put me out of my misery.... any takers???? I'll pay ya lol

:grouphug: :kissing: I am glad you are going to try to see a doctor about this. I believe it is better to get checked out and not have an infection than to not get checked out and have an infection. :)
