I wasn't sure where to put this post, but I need your very best ideas for heading off a cold without having to take sudafed, etc. So far, I'm using zycam and drinking warm pear juice with honey. Any other ideas? I just don't want a flare on top of icky cold symptoms. Thanks.

Oh Brat,
Sorry to hear that you're getting it too! Ugh. My little boy has had it for nearly two weeks and now my husband and I are starting to get it. I've been taking Zicam faithfully and just taking care of myself. Feel better soon!

I felt the need to add that as I researched meds that were not IC friendly decogestants was one of them....so you may do better with sprays, Vics, and allergies meds such as Alavert. I usually consider vitamins helpful...so EsterC vitamin C, Zinc, and L-Lysine....I recommend the vitamins with Prelief. Hope you all feel better soon!

UUUUGH! My daughter and I now have "the cold" lol. She can take anything so she will be fine, heres my question. I know Vit. C can help and I also know it can hurt lol, but what's the difference between ester c and buffered vit. c? I have seen both and couldnt figure out whats different bet. them. Thanks!

I want to know about the difference in the vitamin C too.
I take echinacea when I feel a cold coming on. It usually stops it. If it doesn't and I get worse, I take echinacea with goldenseal. I take the tincture (liquid).
I haven't had a cold, but my allergies have been really bad.
BTW, a year ago this week I started having my bladder problem. It's my IC anniversary. Whoopee!

i have a cold/flu thing going on too and i hate it!! I called the doctor office and they said claratin(sp?) was safe for icer's to use but so far i can't tell a diff.
my husband just went and got me or should i say us Brandon my oldest is sick too that is where this cold came from.
some chicken noodle soup jello and kool aide for me to drink and sprite for him to drink
i'm running a fever with this crap that is the reason i think it may be the flu but with me just haveing surgery a week ago makes my system weak too right?

I have a tip as to how not to get one in the first place. Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands! If you aren't somewhere where you can wash your hands, than get some of that Purell stuff. There are germs everywhere and we touch so many things that have germs on them. I have been doing this for awhile and have not gotten a cold for about 2 years now.
I don't know if it because I have done this, but it doesn't hurt!
Just my two cents. LOL!

lol Mel seems like when i was being the most careful is when i got it. its been a few years since i had it this bad pray when this is over i never go threw it again that is a very important fact i have always taught my children to wash there hands. germs are every where.

What I thought was a cold/allergies has progressed to a fever, nausea, cough, etc. Blasted FLU! I've been taking tylenol with prelief which is helping the fever and a wonderful cough syrup with codine (coutesy of my doctor last time I went round about with this stuff). Sucking on ice is helping me stay hydrated.
Mel, I was just berating myself today for not washing my hands enough. My DH is a chef and hence has fallen into a strict habit of handwashing. I think I'm going to follow his lead! I suspect I covered a little boy's coughing mouth without thinking (motherly instinct) and then forgot to wash my hands. Stupid, stupid, stupid... (Smacking myself on the side of the head here...)

cold eze lozenges are the best! my family swears by them. suck one every four hours at the first sign of a cold and it nips it in the bud. you buy them wherever they sell cough drops. they stop a cold cold!

I went to the doctor today with the thought that I was catching whatever this is early before it turned into bronchitis, sinusitis, etc. Imagine my suprise when the doctor told me I have ear infection and PNEUMONIA! I nearly fell off the table!
So...now I'm on a heavy dose of augmentin for the next 10 days. After this, I swear I'm going to change my diet to all natural foods that will boost my immune system. My body just S#@$#S!

Wow. Isn't that something when you go to the doctor and find that you are sicker than you thought? Take care and get lots of rest.
Glad Rhonda is doing better, too.
