This doesn't bother me that much, but the 30 mg of Ditropan XL per day gives me a few side effects. My mouth feels dry most of the time, and sometimes my throat hurts for a bit. No big deal, I'm just curious if anyone else had these side effects. I wouldn't lower my dose or stop taking Ditropan or anything, I'm pretty sure this stuff will help me out. Just wondering...

Hi -
Yes, one of the side affects of Ditropan is a dry mouth.. like your mouth is full of cotton balls... I drink lots. suck on a candy or chew gum. I only take Ditropan when needed but think if you are on it for a while that the dry mouth would eventually disappear..
take care

My uro put me on Detrol LA on my first visit thinking it was overactive bladder. That too put the cotton balls in my mouth. It was so bad, I would choke when I started to talk. I'm a teacher and that was real trouble. There were only 4 weeks left in school and I decided to wait it out and see if it helped. No such luck, I was dx with IC in July. Well we dropped the Detrol but the Elavil does the same thing. Combined with my allergy meds, Allegra and Rhinocort nasal, I still sound froggy. My hubby thinks it sounds sexy but I don't want to even go there!

I had a dentist visit during all this Detrol/Elavil stuff and he cautioned about dry mouth and dental care. Just what I need, another problem. He said that the dry mouth and lack of saliva can lead to serious tooth decay and gum disease. He gave me info about mouth wash and special lozenges that replace the saliva. He also recommended that I brush and floss more often. Like you, I'm not ready to give up meds that seem to be working on the IC. I'll deal with the desert mouth and suck a lot of lifesavers.

Good luck to you.
