i noticed there are a lot of teachers and nurses who get ic.
could it be that you guys are the more educated and that's why so many of you post.
there are 3-4 teachers in my ic therapy group in austin, tx.
i am not a teacher, but my husband says i look like one when i wear my glasses. he sometimes even says that i look like a cute librarian. he is sweet.
seriously, i wonder why so many teachers/nurses get this darn disease.
i call it a disease. others may not.

I am not a rn or a teacher.. I did teach cosmetologoy tho.. IC is not real picky on who it strikes, and I don't think being a teacher or an rn is more educated on IC. Those of us who have it and contiously research about it, thus giving us a better outlook and can answer questions better.. The more you know about IC the better off you are when it comes to dr's appointment, seeing there are so few educated dr's on this disease.

Well, I am a teacher and I can say that my experience has been to hold it and then always go between classes since I couldn't leave 30 teenagers alone. Probably something similar to nurses not leaving patients. I wonder if there is a connection to holding it as long as I could for years and urine eating away at the lining all that time. Just a thought.

Lindy,
I don't think so, most uro's say it is good to try to hold it as long as possible. It help keep the elasticity in your bladder :).. I have to agree, I wouldn't want to leave 30 teenagers alone either :yikes: .

I have read that about holding it as long as possible. I can hold it an hour or sometimes longer, in spite of the pain or sense of urgency. The longer I hold it the more it hurts so I try to go about every hour. I've had the habit since I started teaching 30 years ago. I am also the last out of the house because I never leave without going again and again and again. My sweet hubby waits patiently in the car.

That is a good point you made about holding it as long as you could. I remember in elem., jr. high, and high school I never had time to use the restroom. I never went during school. I would use the restroom when I got up and use the restroom once I got home from school. This could be one reason maybe. I can remember in jr. high and high school between classes I never had enough time to use the restroom in between classes because I never wanted to be late to class. When I got to the class, I had several teachers who only allowed us so many bathroom breaks per semester and we could only be gone for 3 min. I always thought that I never had enough time to use the restroom, so I never went. Plus in lunch I never had enough time because by the time I went through the lunch line and ate my food it was time to leave. This could be a reason for IC???????????? Chelsey
