And it was very interesting. I'm glad I can disassociate my bodily feelings if you know what I mean.
She also said my pubic bone was out of allignment and gave me an excersise to get it back in place.

Hi Mary, I hope PT helps you. I've been going for yrs and it is the only treatment that I've had that I know for sure has made a difference.
Ya know, it's so funny how you'll adapt. Yesterday, I had to have an ultrasound and the tech asked if she could try the vaginal probe, since the belly one wasn't getting the angle she needed. I was like.... okay, no problem. I think she was a bit shocked by my willingness, but after awhile you get used to having another medical provider down there. lol :dizzy:

Mine doesn't hurt after, but it's pretty intense during the massage. The internal isn't as bad as the external. She says my muscles are very tight, that's why they are so sore when she pushes on the. Oh, I also developed a rash from the external massage cream.
I know things are sort of delicate when we talk about the massage techniques, but, I have asked my pain management team about the pelvic massage and if they had anyone who was a pt with experience. NO was the ans.
So, is there any way you guys could describe in details what these massages or the treatments are like?
If it is too descriptive to put on line, you could privately email me.
Esp. if they can be done by yourself. I don't think there is anyone in our town who does these.
They talk about the kegals and urine incontinance type PT, but we have the oppostite type of need. We need to relax the muscles.
I am sure mine are tight, very tight, I had a nurse who did some bio feedback stuff, where she put probe on my thigh, near the vaginal area, and one other place I can't remember, then she took a baseline reading, which was way way over normal. So she had me do kegals, which was (in my mind) an oxymoron, but they caused me to have a lot of pain after the feedback. It caused a 3 day flare.
She wanted me to do like 60 kegals 2 or more times a day. That too created a flare.
Heck, my problem is that I try to urninate and the flow keeps stopping. So, what do I need kegals for?
I believe the rationale was that it would make the muscles of the pelvic floor tired, and that would give me relief. HUM, Nope just pain.
She also gave me a vaginal dilator. It is a hard plastic round thing about 6-7" long. I was to put it into the vaginal canal, and then leave it there for 20 mins.
Then do kegals with it in.
Well, that gave me 5 day flares. I was in too much pain!
Are any of these things what they do in the PT for Pelvic massage?
How do you feel afterwards, and is it working at all?

Well, Kegels are part of my PT for PFD... the idea is that you are supposed to learn to isolate the muscles, and then, throughout the day, be mindful of them. If you notice you're clenching them up, you're supposed to take a minute to relax them. The Kegels are also supposed to give you better control of those muscles, so that you restore the communication between the pelvic floor and the bladder.
My PT also involved stretching of the external pelvic muscles (hips, crotch, butt). In involves some massage of internal tissues as well, however, my therapist is concentrating right now on the back side of the pelvis (lower down, towards the rectum) to try and avoid my urethra and bladder at the moment. She is very gentle. She also uses deep tissue heating with ultrasound to relax the muscles deep inside... it involves running an ultrasound probe over my vulvar and perineal area for a little bit prior to doing the internal stuff.
If you want a really good description of what should be done, please PM me, and I will give you my physical therapist's email address -- I know that you're clear across the country, but my PT will be more than willing to describe what her protocol is because she's VERY nice. She may also be able to recommend someone in your area, as she has many connections; she's always going to conferences, including the latest Pelvic Pain Society one, with my uro, and I'm sure she meets all sort of people -- maybe she can recommend someone....
In addition you can also read the book "A Headache in the Pelvis", which is sold in the ICN Shop at http://www.ic-network.com/shop -- this book describes PT for pelvic pain and the reasons why certain things are done.
Hi, I am trying to find out as much as I can about physical therapy for PFD, I was just diagnosed yesterday, and am starting therapy in a couple of weeks, also biofeedback. Any help would be appreciated, I am curious does it cause a flare, I know I have been reading some information about it, but would really like to know from some of you gals that are going through the therapy right now. It would make my mind a little easier, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Iris. :hi:
