Finding A Doctor

You Are Here: ICN : ECRC : Finding A Doctor

Given the fact that EC is considered rare, it's likely going to be tough to find a physician who is specializes in it. Sadly, there is a large population of medical care providers who are simply unaware of the disease, particularly primary care physicians, emergency room physicians, family practice physicians and, of course, internists. How do we find a care provider who is knowledgeable about EC?

There are several resources on-line that can help you locate a urologist.

  • The EC Research Listings may be your best bet because these are physicians and universities actively interested in EC. Look up the author names and facilities and then contact them directly. You can then use the AMA physician resource to find their clinic and location.

  • The ICN Physician Listings is a small but growing list of physicians around the country who have an interest in treating IC and pain patients. They may also be interested in treating an EC patient. It's worth giving them a call and asking.

  • The AMA Doctor Finder is an on-line resource of the American Medical Association and allows you to sort by specialty and zip code. This is an ideal way to research the general urology professionals in your area. We encourage you to then contact those clinics and ask if they treat IC patients.

  • The Urology Channels MD Locator Service is a searchable database of urologists throughout the USA.

Did you know that there are resources on the web that allow you to research a physicians, their licenses and specialties. www.docboard.org is a comprehensive web site created by the Association of State Medical Board Executive Directors. It's well worth visiting.
